Wake Electric to Fund Classroom Technology Awards

As part of its commitment to the communities it serves, Wake Electric Membership Corporation has begun accepting applications for its “Classroom Technology Awards.”

The awards will allow local educators to purchase equipment such as computers, digital cameras, scanners and software, depending on their needs. The technology represented by the award must benefit the students in the classroom.

Teachers in Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Nash, Vance and Wake counties are eligible to apply. The deadline for applications is September 30, 2006.

These awards are separate from Wake Electric’s Bright Ideas Grant Program, which has already given local teachers more than $281,000 since 1994.

“Being a proactive community citizen is very important to Wake Electric, and this is just another way we can give back to our communities,” explains General Manager Jim Mangum.

Guideline for Wake Electric Classroom Technology Awards

• Must be a public school or a Community College in one of the following North Carolina counties: Durham, Franklin, Granville, Johnston, Nash, Vance and Wake

• Technology must benefit students in the classroom

• Deadline for completed applications—September 30, 2006
