Wake Electric
Membership Corporation is accepting applications for the Bright Ideas Grant
Program for the 2006-2007 school year.
This marks the 13th year the Cooperative is rewarding local
teachers for their innovative and creative classroom projects.
All North Carolina-certified K-12 teachers are eligible for a Bright
Ideas grant. Previous winning grants represent a variety of hands-on
projects, including activities in music, art, history, language, reading,
science, career planning and information technology. The maximum amount for
any grant is $1,500.
Since the program began in 1994, Wake Electric has awarded more than
$281,000 in grant money to local teachers. Last year 44 projects were funded
totaling $50,000.
The grant program is co-sponsored by Wake Electric and N.C. Electric
Membership Corporation.
Partial funding for the grants also comes from the Wake Electric Care
Foundation which draws from members’ and employees’ Operation RoundUp®
contributions.
For the first time, Wake Electric requests that all
applications be
submitted on-line electronically.
Teachers who submit their applications by August 19 will be entered in a
drawing for a digital camera. The final deadline for Bright Ideas
applications is September 30, 2006.
